Project BEAR!

(Building Environmental Awareness and Respect!)

Would you like one of our enthusiastic environmental educators to visit your class or take them on an engaging field trip? Our in-school program, Project BEAR (Building Environmental Awareness and Respect), was created to serve a wider range of Colorado's youth. Project BEAR incorporates natural science with hands-on activities to create fun, educational experiences that meet specific science, math, and geography curricula needs. We can tailor the theme to meet the teacher's ideas, explore a local ecosystem on a guided field trip or the teacher can choose one of our established programs.

Sombrero Marsh

Would you like your class to visit and learn about Boulder County's unique saline wetland while engaging in outdoor and indoor hands-on stations? Schedule a field trip to the Sombrero Marsh Environmental Education Center where the Thorne Ecological Institute staff will help to facilitate the Sombrero Marsh program. The students are led through various labs where they actively learn about the soils and geology of the marsh, the unique seeds, plants, and birds of the marsh and their adaptations. The students step into the role of scientist as they provide scientific observations and calculations about the marsh water for the on-going research. Contact Christina Allen, Sombrero Marsh Coordinator, for more information or to schedule a trip to Sombrero Marsh.
